Madagascar, the world's 4th largest island, measures 1571 km in length
and 571 km across. Located 400 kilometres off the east coast of Africa,
and is one of the most exotic and mysterious islands in the world. It is
legendary for the profusion of its wildlife and flora, 80% of which are
endemic to this island paradise. Here you will find jumping, flying,
slithering beasts that stem from Mother Natures quirky sense of humour,
which would seem more at home on some alien world. This is the only
place in the world where you can see lemurs dancing with their babies in
the wild. It has an exceptionally diverse and spectacular variety of
landscapes - mountains, coral isles, deserts, rainforests, dazzling
beaches fringing the Indian Ocean, island archipelagos to baobab forests
and craters. All of Africa has one variety of baobab tree, for example, and
Madagascar has seven, as well as 19,000 species of plants -- a world
record.
